During this course, you will be introduced to a variety of Network Management topics, all of which you will encounter again and again here at DeVry and in your professional career.

In this week, you will prepare a research report in which you will summarize and present what you have learned this week in your Introduction. Each exercise must be completed on a separate page of your report.


This week, you will prepare a research report that thoroughly answers the following three exercise questions. Each exercise should be prepared on a separate page of your report.

  1. Exercise 10 of Chapter 12 on page 505: The network shown in Figure 12.44 on page 506 is an MPLS network with all routers configured as Label-Switching Routers (LSRs). The paths (LSPs) are determined using TE (Traffic Engineering). The address of each router is x.x.x.x where x is the router number, for example, Explain your reasoning and fill in the R2 routing table: 
    1. for paths with no tunnels and
    2. for paths with tunnels T1 and T2.
  2. Exercise 6 of Chapter 13 on page 553: Cable modems on the coaxial part of the topology of an HFC configuration shown in Figure 13.3 on page 510 are a tree structure. Cable modems with Ethernet stations resemble an Ethernet LAN. Contrast an HFC coaxial broadband LAN with a regular Ethernet LAN on: (a) topology, (b) downstream protocol, and (c) upstream protocol.
  3. Exercise 6 of Chapter 14 on page 582: 
    1. What MIB table would you use to measure the QoS of service flow in a fixed wireless system between the base station and the subscriber station?
    2. Define latency and jitter for service flow in a fixed wireless system.
    3. Write the specific managed objects associated with latency and jitter.

 The following grading rubric is for the Week 7 Project Report.

 Documentation and Formatting   6  20 A quality paper will include a title page, abstract, proper citations using APA style, and a bibliography.
 Organization and Cohesiveness   6  20 A quality paper will include an introduction based upon a well-formed thesis statement. The logical order of the content will be derived from the thesis statement. In a quality paper, the conclusion will summarize the previously presented content and will complement the thesis statement from the introduction.
Editing   6  20 A quality paper will be free of any spelling, punctuation, or grammatical errors. Sentences and paragraphs will be clear, concise, and factually correct.
Content  12  40 A quality paper will have significant scope and depth of research to support any statements. Strategic implications will be explained and supported. Relevant illustrations or examples are encouraged. A quality paper will employ use of sound reasoning and logic to reinforce conclusions.
Total  30 100 A quality paper will meet or exceed all of the above requirements.
